Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. was Prime Minister from 1940-1945 and again in 1951-1955.He led Britain to victory in the second world war. Churchill is widely considered to be one of the 20th century most significant figures, and still today remains popular in the UK and western world as a victorious wartime leader.
He won a Nobel Prize in literature and certainly had a way with words. On my embroidery was one of his most famous during the battle of Britain. ' Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.
When he died 24th January 1965 aged 90 he was given a state funeral and his resting place is St Martins church Bladon.
